— What We Do

Keeping organic waste out of the landfill — and back on the land.

Cariboo Compost runs a weekly curbside collection for homes and businesses in Williams Lake, BC.  Plus seasonal yard waste pickups and organics-diversion programs for restaurants and local drop-off locations. What we collect gets processed and turned into finished, locally-produced compost that goes back into growing food nearby.

— The Role

Part-time, hands-on, outdoors — about 20-25 hours a week.

You’ll split your time between the collection routes and the composting facility itself, learning the whole cycle from bucket to finished soil.

01

Route pickups

Collect full buckets from residential and commercial customers, swap in clean ones, and keep the weekly schedule running on time.

02

Facility work

Maintaining and monitoring composting systems, managing finished compost, and general upkeep at the processing site.

03

Seasonal yard waste

Support the fall yard waste program — leaves, grass, and branches — as it winds down through October and November.

04

Learning the craft

Hands-on exposure to medium-scale composting operations, customer relationships, and what it takes to run a local organics diversion business.

— The Exchange

What you get in return.

Housing

Your own space

A private room in the place of residence with partially shared kitchen, bathroom and laundry facilities. Large playful backyard and full privacy when owner is gone.

A small monthly stipend on top of free/trade housing arrangement plus a gas card.
